Summary INFLUENCE OF SOIL AND TOPOGRAPHY ON THE PROPORTION OF TREE SPECIES IN THE BEECH/FIR FOREST IN THE KARST AREA OF WESTERN CROATIA By applying the orthogonal factorial analysis was investigated in a trial the effect of the soil and topography on the proportion of tree species in the Beech/Fir forest (Fagetum croaticum ab etetosum Horv.). The investigation indued 125 sample plots on brown soil on limestones and 82 sample plots on lessive soil on limestones. The natrix of input data contained: the depth of At Horizon, %> of humus, C/N ratio, pH in H>0 and °/o of clay — all in Ai Horizon, total depth of soil, altitude, aspect (values of characteristics increase from N over E and W towards S), slope, shading of the soil by crowns in %> of the shaded area, proportion of tree species by volume of stems and the growing-stock volume expressed in m3/ha (Tab. 1). The results presented in Tab. 2 and Fig. 1 were achieved by the model of the orthogonal factorial analysis (taken from the textbook: Mathematical methods for digital computers, chapter 7, New York 1962). The author cautions that all the established links are not a testimony of the causes of the variability of the species proportion. This refers especially to the shading of the soil by crowns and the growing-stock volume. It proved necessary to continue investigations and to process a greater number of matrices of input data. Although it is not yet possible to draw a conclusion regard ng the main question, the results obtained may help in planning forest production. |
