SUMMARY Comparative investigations on the thriving of Aleppo Pine (Pinu s halepen si s Mill.) plantatinas established on calcareous and Flysch parent materials within the natural range Planiatings of Alleppo Pine in the Adriatic region are to be found on limestone and Flysch sites. But as there were no authentic data on the effects of parent rock on the thriving of the aforementioned Pine, the author investigated within the scope of his master´s thesis the growith and increment in the plantation »Vranjica« (calcareous parent material) and the plantation »Jadrinje« (Flysch parent material). At the moment of field work (1971) the plantations were 18 years old, and up to that age (the Aleppo Pine on Flysch parent material exhibited a considerably higher growth and increment than on calcareous parent material. In the investigated stands the growing-stock volume on Flysch parent material amounted to 77.9 m3/ha, on calcareous parent material amounted to only 23.7 mVha. It is interesting to add that Aleppo Pine on calcareous parent material showed up to the 10 th year of age a higher height increment than on Flysch parent material, but after that year the intensity of accretion in height changed in favour of Flysch parent material. However, the diameter increment during all these 18 years has been higher on Flysch than on calcareous parent material. The author also estaflished that the share of bark on calcareous parent material amounted to 24,07"/», whereas on Flysch to only 19.68 % of the volume of unbar- ked tree.
