Summary The natural Renewal of the Stands burn down at Jelsa of the Island of Hvar in 1979 In the summer of 1979 an area of wods and shrubs on 800 ha was destroyed by fire at Jelsa on the island of Hvar. For the most part the area was covered by Alepps Pine (Pinus helepensis Mill) and maquis to a minor extent. In the autumn of 1980 the author found that the tree species were completely restored to life: the pine from seeds and the maquis from tree-stumps, with the exception of juniper (Juniperus oxicedrus and Juniperus phoenicea) whose off shoots were not found. The table (page 848) shows a number of pine plants on 6 plots each sized 1 m2 and their height-arrangement ranging from 2 — 40 cm.
