The Development of the Mechanisation, Technology and Organisation
of Work in the Exploitation of Forests in the ´Mojica Birta´
Forest Enterprise in Bjelovar

S u ni in ,-i r y

The author describes the development oi technology and organisation of work.
and the introduction of mechanisation in the exploitation of forests in the ´Mojica
Birta´ Forest Eenterprice in Bjelovar from 1960 to 1984. This forest enterprise manages
137 245 hectares of forests and in this decade has felled appromimately
500 000 m´!, of which approximately 220 000 m´-´ is timber (Table 1). Until 1960
all the work was carried out with manual tools and the dragging of wood from
the forest with cattle-drawn carts. Motor saws were fully introduced in 1968,
from which time group work was gradually introduced. Group work reduced working
time (for felling and primary conversion, jastenning up and dragging to the
depot) to 49.8% with the classic work per tree dimeter to 1.30 m 31.3 cm (Table 5).
The loading and dragging of wood is today completely mechanised. Work productivity
has also grown with the introduction of the primary conversion of thin
non-split assortiments in length of 2 to 8 m, in comparison with the former length
of 1 m.
