Economically Justified Aaerial Control of Forest Insect Pests

Summary

The authors derive formulae for determining economically justified aerial
control iof forest insect pests. They also give formulae related to individual calculating
elements by economicall}´ justified control of forest insect pests by means of
aircraft.

Following elements are taken into consideration: actual intensity of infestation,
critical intensity of infestation, monophagous and polyphagous forest insects, size
of the treated forest stand, overall area of yearly treated forest stands of a forest
enterprise, necessity for construction and maintenance of own airbasses and other
facilities for successful aerial treatments or possibilities of making use of an agricultural
or sports avation, potential damages from insect pests in individual forest
stands or in the whole forest complex and the like.

Special attention is paid to the assessment of potential forest damage and to

effects of insect pest control in managed and non-managed forests.

This article is of theoretical methodological character. It includes also two theoretical
examples of applying the formula for determining econodically justified
aerial control of both monophagous and polyphagous insect pests.
