Prisjanska Reka Flood Wave Analysis at Pirot, Dated June 26th 1988


Summary


On June 26th 1988, high-intensity long-lasting rain occurred in South-Eastern
Serbia, including the watershed of Prisjanska Reka, which then flooded the village
Rasnica, Pirot town and the surrounding agricultural fields.


Based on the traces of the flood flow, the maximal discharge of the flood
wave has been calculated and analysed, and the method of synthetic unit hydro-
graph has been used to determine the return period of the observed discharge. It
has been concluded that in Prisjanska Reka, before the confluence of Pasjačka
R.eka, the maximal discharge amounted to Qmax = 48.61 mVs, i.e. specific discharge
amounted to 1.418 m´Vs/km2. The probability of occurrence of the discharge
is p = l.P/o, i.e. return period is cca 91 years.


The total discharge of Prisjanska Reka and Pasjačka Reka amounted to
Qmax = 73.88 m:1/s.
