Kako smo već napomenuli, ekološka ravnoteža je u našim šumama sačuvana na jednoj trećini površine šuma i te šume još uvijek dobro obavljaju ekološku, socijalnu i sirovinsku funkciju. Dugotrajan ali vrlo značajan zadatak šumarskog stručnjaka je rad na postupnom povratku ekološke ravnoteže u preostalom dijelu šuma. Tada bi se ekološka funkcije naših šuma povećala za 300%´ a sirovinska za više od 50%. Rješavanje navedenih problema mora postati redovna i trajna mjera aktivnosti u svakom šumskom reviru. S obzirom na važan i Zakonom o šumama propisan zadatak »Hrvatskih šuma« o proizvodnji ekoloških učinaka čija se vrijednost danas cijeni na 12—36 puta veću vrijednost od proizvedene drvne mase, revir postaje nezaobilazan faktor u gospodarenju šumama. Ako je Europa već davno prihvatila takav način organiziranosti ne vidimo razloge ni svrhu izbjegavanja uvođenja tog provjerenog modela u šumarstvu Hrvatske. Regional System in Croatian Forestry as a Basic Precondition for Increasing Ecological, Social and Raw Material Function of the Forests Summary The author emphasises that never before has the ecological, social and raw material function of forests been so important in the Croatian forestry as they are today. One third of Croatian forests, both selective and regular, still maintain a natural balance, vhile in remaining areas of the forests this has still to be achieved by forestry experts. Recent inadequate legislations have contributed to inadequate (and worldwide unknown) organization of Croatian forests. Among other things this has caused many problems which must be solved by selective and regular forests, as well as by Mediterranean and sub-Mediterranean forests. With the introduction of a regional unit the forestry expert will again return to the forest where all problems in the forest ecosystem are to be solved. In this connection the organization is suggested of a region covering an average area of 2,000 ha in which a regional forestry engineer will be engaged in solving all problems connected with the integral management of the forest.
