SUMMARY: The paper discusses the basic principles of sustainable management
applied in forestry and wood technology, particularly in terms ofobjectivization
of the value of natural resources. Following a review of some reputable
authors´ definitions, there is an analysis of the Croatian natural forest
resources and their use. Finally, the sustainable forest management as to the
natural resource economics is discussed.

Confronting the paradigm of sustainable development with the exchangeable
one, using examples from forestry, and establishing a definition of the conflict
between the classical economics and the one focused on natural resources,
I have offered a new concept of theoretical application of forest resource
economics as one part of renewable natural resource economics.

In addition to the theoretical discussion, there are also practical suggestions
for forming an appropriate resource policy in Croatia to enable an objective
assessment of values. Also, there is a review of cost analysis methods for
calculation of the natural resource values.

Key words: sustainable development, exchangeable development, sustainable
