I). ISallian: ANALI/.A RASTA KLIJANACA OBILNE JELE [Abies alba MILL.) RAZLIČITIH POPULACIJA ... Šumarski listbr. 11-12. CXXIV (2000), 649-660

SUMMARY: In the Busovača nursery on seedlings of European silver fir
fAbies alba Mill.) from five populations, diameter above the root neck and
height of plants were analysed. Seed were planted in cassettes with 33 cells
(grahop/ast). For each tree and population planting was done separately in
three repetitions (three cassettes).

At the end of the first vegetation season the first measurements were taken,
this was repeated at the end of the second vegetation season too. The data was
recorded and analysed, and analyses were produced the following results.
Research of the population shows defined variability for both internal and external
population for both researched topics at the age of 1 and 2years on the
I % possibility which could help in estimation of interpopulational variability.

The achieved variability shows that a selection can be made based on the
speed of diameter and height growth in the early stage, but only by the performing
the tests on the seedlings. This in turn could have some influence in
meliorative developments in the forests when the replanting is done. It is also
necessary for the young plants to survive the offending vegetation.

Heredity (h2) in the broad terms shows very small sizes in both I and 2 year.
The reason for this could be that the seeds comes from the natural populations
where it was derived. The plants are heterozygote and the male parent is more
than likely inferior which had effect on the small hereditary.

Correlation between the researched topics is very weak which points that
there is a very small interdependence. It also shows the regression coefficient
is extremely low for all combinations. From this can be derived that a selection
cannot be made on the fast growth of the seedlings based on the parent s sizes.

The weight of the seed of the European silver fir does not have any effect on
the initial fast growth for diameter or height. This is due to other factors.

The plants produced in the cassettes have larger dimensions in their early
years than the ones planted in the usual way. This in turn shortens the time period
of producing the seedlings and provide the reforestation to be performed
using less planting materials.
