M. Vučetić: VREMENSKE PRILIKE I ŠUMSKI PO/ARI NA HRVATSKOM PRIOBALJU TIJEKOM 2000. Šumarski list br. 7-8, CXXV (2001). 367-378
SUMMARY: The weather conditions, which were essential for increasing
and decreasing of potential danger for starting and spreading of the forest
fire, on the coastal area of Croatia during the period June-September 2000
have been analysed. The comparison of the summer 2000 with the same period
1999 has been shown that the summer 2000 was exceptionally. Deficit of
precipitation amount has already recorded during the spring 2000. The rain
absented mainly on the coastal meteorological stations in August 2000. The
dry period lasted longer than 35 days. A stronger wind in relation to the usually
wind regime hastened to dry up a forest fuel. The weather conditions
increased extremely the forest fire danger, not only on the coastal and island
areas, as well in hinterland of Croatia. This is evident from comparison of the
seasonal severity rating between 1999 and 2000. The severe forest fire during
2000 broke out in August. Due to special weather conditions in August the initial
spread index, ISI and fire weather index, FWI, show that these forest fires
were the most danger forest fire types -crown fire.
