Hrašovec) Među ksilofagnim vrstama kukaca postoji čitav niz "životnih strategija", od izrazito primarnih (onih koji napadaju stabla u izvrsnoj kondiciji) pa do tipično sekundarnih, tercijernih i posebno spe- cijaliziranih kategorija ksilofaga koji se hrane drvnom tvari u različitim fazama njezina prirodnog razlaganja. Zahvaljujući sušnim i vrlo toplim razdobljima njihova se brojnost povećava i upravo svje- dočimo razarajućem učinku jelovih i smrekovih potkornjaka u našim šumama bukve i jele u Gorskom kotaru i Lici. Osim potkornjaka, ponekad se kao značajni fiziološki štetnici mogu javiti i krasnici (Buprestidae), pa ovaj puta prikazujemo neke tipične znakove napada i njihove prisutnosti pod korom stabala uzdrmanih stresom. Among xylophages one encounters a complete spectrum of "life strategies", from plain tree-killers (those that attack fully healthy trees) to various species that need to find a weak, dying tree in order to succeed in their attack. Through successive stages, these are followed by guilds of other beetles that thrive in dead wood. Prolonged drought and hot seasons stimulated the rise of these populations and for the past few years we have been witnessing the destructive impact of fir and spruce bark beetles in our beech and fir forests of Gorski Kotar and Lika. Besides bark beetles, some species of jewel beetles (Buprestidae) can occur as serious physiological pests so we present here some typical signs of their pres- ence under the bark of the stressed trees.
