SUMMARY: The fourth EUFORGEN Committee Meeting was held from 26-29 May 2004., in Zidlochovice, Czech Republic. National coordinators from 30 participating countries, focal persons and representatives of international organisations (FAO, IUFRO, EFI and others) attended the meeting. In the frame of the fourth meeting the first day (26 May) it was held Seminar on Forest Biological diversity and sustainable forest management in Europe (Pan-European Process on Forest, Forests science and policy -meaking, Global prospectives on forest genetic Resources, Sustainable forest management -update on the UNFF process, Global status and trends of the genetic modification in forestry, Linking conservation of forest genetic resources and sustainable forest management: the role of EUFORGEN). It was proposed that EUFORGEN shoud create models for "genetic friendly silviculture " ie. "nature close silviculture " does not mean "working nothing ". Participating members ofEU and EUFORGEN will promote conservation of forest genetic resources as a part of sustainable forest management and proceed to work on Pan-european level. The Steering Committee during the fourth meeting acepted all main documents prepared for meeting; summary for Phase II and Phase III, resolutions and recomendations of second and third ministerial conferences for protection of europpean forests, Convention of Biological Diversity, Finantial Report from year 2000-2003 and proposal yearly budget for Phase III (2005-2009) 1,86 million USD.
