A. Durbcšić, 1. Milković: AFFORESTING UNSTOCKED FORESTLAND ON THE SOUTHERN SLOPES ... Šumarski list - SUPLEMENT 12005). 133-143
According to the Forest Management Plan for the stock in the study area is about 60 thousand m , while
MU "Borovača" (valid 1994 - 2003), the growing the annual current increment is 3.35 m7ha.

9. AMELIORATION RESULT
Ocular observation does not reveal any considerable
damage from torrents in the study area. The regional
Drniš-Muć-Sinj road is passable, the agricultural
areas allow for undisturbed production, and there is no
clogging of natural ditches, which contributes to natural
water discharge. This is confirmed by research results
of Dr Topic (2001, 2003). In his paper "The impact
of black pine cultures (Pinus nigra Arn.) on soil
protection against rain-induced erosion" (Zagreb,
2001), based on research of several years in permanent
sample plots in the watershed of the Suvava torrent, Dr
Topic concludes: "Cultures of black pine in the watershed
of the Suvava torrent have distinctly positive ef

fects in terms of soil protection against rain-induced
erosion. Surface runoff of precipitation water under the
studied culture is low, while erosion is excluded."

Along with invaluable anti-erosion effects and
increased values of other non-commercial functions,
the applied ameliorative treatments considerably improved
the wood-productive forest function in the area
and offered the possibility of further improvement.

Older stands of black pine manifest the succession
of autochthonous vegetation (pubescent oak, manna
ash, oriental hornbeam). This will increase the share of
autochthonous tree species in future management.

10. CONCLUSION
The experience and results achieved in this facility
provide a good starting point for amelioration of torrential
and erosion-prone karst areas.
