Summary: Schaedlin´s Selective Thinning was carried out in a 40-year-old culture of Scots pine (Pynus sylvestris L.) in Compartment 30, Management Unit "Gata" (Cazin Forest Office). Based on the analysis of natural conditions of the climate, soil and all taxational elements after thinning, as well as the quality of the trees before and after thinning, it has been concluded that thinning was justified both biologically and economically. Its aplication in the future period until the planned production period of 100-120 years, with removing dry branches at the end of the thinning operation, will guarantee the production of high quality wood mass of Scots pine.
