Relationship between the increment in Sycamore Maple and Beech in the management unit of »Ravna Gora«.     PDF     EN 166
Summary: The diameter increment of Acer Pseudoplatanus is almost equal to that of Beech. In thinner diameter gradations generally the increment rate is greater in Acer Pseudoplatanus, while in thicker diameter gradations it is greater in Beech.
The diameter increment both of Acer Pseudoplatanus and Beech culminates in trees of 50 and 55 cm. diam. respectively, and thus both these tree species should not be maintained in the stand above these diameters because they begin to degrade rapidly in quality thereafter.
Acer Pseudoplatanus displays also an earlier culmination point of diameter increment occurring at about 30 cm. d. b. h. i. e. when it achieves the largest amount of foliage.
Although there is the question of two different species the course of the diameter increment is well-nigh equal.
Acer Pseudoplatanus should be maintained in stands where it occurs by natural reproduction as well as to be spread to the cost of Beech. To this purpose one should take care of the young growth of Acer Pseudoplatanus, and in the selection forests of the community of Beech and Fir on calcareous parent rock it should be freed from Beech and in its pole-stage given every help because then it is severily endangered by Beech.
